Getting Started
Connecting Your First VPS
Detailed system requirements, firewall rules, and provider-specific recommendations.
Rubuz is completely cloud-agnostic. You own your VPS infrastructure, your IP addresses, and your data. Rubuz simply acts as your zero-CLI control plane.
Minimum System Requirements
- Operating System: Ubuntu 22.04 / 24.04 LTS or Debian 11 / 12 (64-bit x86_64 or ARM64)
- RAM: Minimum 1 GB RAM (2 GB+ recommended for busy WordPress/database stacks)
- Disk: 15 GB NVMe / SSD disk space
- Root Access: Fresh server without conflicting pre-installed web panels (cPanel, Plesk, CyberPanel, etc.)
Network & Firewall Ports
Rubuz automatically manages internal firewall rules via nftables/ufw, but ensure your cloud provider’s external firewall (security groups) allows incoming traffic on the following ports:
| Port | Protocol | Purpose |
|---|---|---|
80 | TCP | HTTP traffic & Let’s Encrypt ACME challenges |
443 | TCP / UDP | HTTPS & HTTP/3 QUIC web traffic |
22 | TCP | Optional: Out-of-band SSH administration |
Cloud Provider Setup Guides
Hetzner Cloud
When creating a server in the Hetzner Cloud Console:
- Select location (Falkenstein, Nuremberg, or Helsinki for Europe; Ashburn/Hillsboro for US).
- Choose Ubuntu 24.04.
- Select CPX11 (AMD) or CAX11 (ARM64 Ampere Altra).
- Paste the server IPv4 in Rubuz.
DigitalOcean Droplets
- Choose an Ubuntu Droplet.
- Select the Basic shared CPU ($6/mo or higher).
- Do not select 1-click LAMP or LEMP marketplace apps; start with a standard minimal OS image.
